Introduction

Transition Year

Transition Year is a different year to any other that students will experience during their time in Pobalscoil Neasáin. It is a school-based programme between Junior and Senior Cycle. It is designed to act as a bridge between the two by facilitating the smooth transition from the more dependent learning of the Junior Cycle to the more independent self-directed learning required for the Senior Cycle.

Transition Year offers students an opportunity to engage in independent, self-directed learning, to develop general, technical and academic skills, and to mature and develop without the pressure of an examination. Students will get the opportunity to experience a wide range of different subjects and modules, explore different methods of learning, including research and project work. As learners, they will be given greater responsibility for their own learning and progress to enable them to make more informed choices about the kind of Leaving Certificate programme they want to follow after Transition Year.
