Work Experience

Work experience forms an important part of the Transition Year programme. It is the policy of Pobalscoil Neasáin that students of Transition Year are required to do work experience EVERY Friday during term time, with the first placement beginning on Friday 8th September.

Finding Work Experience

It is the student’s responsibility to find a placement of value in a business or professional environment which interests them from a career point of view. An extension of a part time job is not suitable. Community involvement and volunteering in an organisation are also encouraged as an appropriate work experience opportunity. Two separate work experience placements are required during the year, one to run from September to December and the second to run from January to May. Students are permitted to change work experience placements during the year, once a completed new work experience form is completed and handed it to the Work Experience Co-ordinator before starting a new placement.

In exceptional circumstances, if a valuable work placement opportunity arises outside of the designated calendar dates, a student may avail of this once they speak to their Year Head. If a student is unable to find a placement for work experience they must inform either the Year Head or the Work Experience Co-ordinator
